Concorr Joins Garrick House Network

GHN is a community of legal advisers in Construction Professional Firms.  Its aim is to provide and share know-how on issues of common concern.  The network is supported by technical resources provided by legal experts and by members and a programme of events.

Practice Managing Director – Michael Nugent and International Markets Associate – Bill McKeown were recently invited to attend the GHN evening seminar at the Royal College of Surgeons, London.

Following on from this we are in discussions regarding our giving technical presentations relating to the legal aspects and requirements for structure appraisal and fault analysis in legal cases.

The evening was a great success and we wish to thank the Network for our invitations.

Surveying in Abu Dhabi

We have secured an offshore communications tower survey on an oil platform off Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

A team of corrosion engineers will attend the platform by helicopter, staying on board while the inspection is carried out using climbing techniques.

This is one of the many Middle East projects currently being secured by us via UAE office.

On time and to budget

Bank of america

The Project Management Division of the Concrete & Corrosion Consultancy Practice Ltd was appointed by a major American Bank as technical project managers on a design and build project to refurbish the facade of the prestigious Grade 1 listed Newgate Building in St Pauls.

The building is 4 storeys high with extensive ornate facade elevations.

The project consisted principally of  scaffolding access, nebular spray cleaning with elaborate water control, timber repairs to the windows, redecoration of all previously decorated areas and stone repairs to a highly demanding specification.

The facade and envelope to the building consists of multiple finishes including limestone, redbrick, timber and decorative cast iron and rainwater goods.

The high level specification refurbishment was completed 10% ahead of an already tight program and kept to budget to the clients delight!

A taste of our CPD presentations by IHE

We would like to share with you the reviews on our Presentation for the Institute of Highways Engineers (IHE). The presentation took place on the 16th of January at the Grange Centre in Midhurst.

A special thanks to the staff of the Southern Branch of IHE who made this event possible and to the attendees for their time and collaboration.

To find further information, please read below or click here.

Concrete & Corrosion Consultancy Presentation – Midhurst 16th January 2013

The Southern Branch 2013 Programme of Events got off to a good start on 16th January at the Grange Centre in Midhurst.

28 Members and guests braved the winter weather to hear Michael Nugent the MD of the Concrete & Corrosion Consultancy Practice Ltd give a comprehensive presentation on the activities of his company.

Concrete and corrosion are uncomfortable bedfellows and we were all made well aware of this fact immediately prior to the 2012 Olympic Games when cases of it were found in the elevated sections of the A4 at Hammersmith resulting in extensive carriageway and lane closures to undertake expensive remedial works to return the structure to full strength condition.

This occurrence is by no means a ‘one off’ and Michael explained in depth how modern survey methods and use of technology can be employed to provide a health check and
establish the exact condition of structures throughout their life span and provide detailed reports together with recommendations in order to keep them fit for purpose.

Based in Canterbury and with a northern office in Mirfield, West Yorkshire the company carries out Inspection and Testing Surveys to EN 1504 standard which is the European standard placing high importance on correct initial diagnosis together with emphasising the need for surveys in order to maintain whole life viability of assets.

Following the survey the company places strong emphasis on the Report which is arguably the most important part of the exercise. This needs to be informative and give valuable answers upon which technically correct repair strategies can be based. If required they also offer Technical Consultancy and Project Management services to clients in conjunction with partners and supply chains thereby providing a holistic service package.
With so many aging structures in highway authority inventories this was a timely introduction for some and a reminder for others that assets need regular detailed inspection in order to maintain them in a ‘fit for purpose’ condition whilst at the same time achieving value for money.
Our thanks go to Michael for his detailed and valuable presentation on such an important subject.

Latest Networking and Informative events

IMG_00000014

At the Concrete & Corrosion Consultancy Practice we have been very hectic promoting and developing networking and informative events in the last few months.

From the annual Bridges exhibition in Birmingham to seminars around the country, we have been travelling and networking with different professionals in the industry. And now we are looking into  next seasons free CPD seminars in Manchester, Edinburgh and London.

We believe that establishing relations with your customers and the people you work with is key in achieving great results for both parties.

In April, we went up to Birmingham to exhibit in the Bridges 2013 Conference, in which we met some of our current and future clients.  It was a very informative event and we truly enjoyed being there.

This below, is a picture of our free of charge CPD Seminar on the Inspection, Diagnostic Testing and Reporting on Buildings and Structures, which we hosted in Birmingham, on the 11th of April, the day after the Bridges Conference. The attendees were coming from different companies, and some of them were present in the conference as well, it was good to see them again.

We have been posting about this seminar on our blog, but for those who haven’t read them, we covered the following topics:

The Inspection, Diagnostic Testing and Reporting on Buildings & Structures

(Michael Nugent, The Concrete & Corrosion Consultancy Practice Ltd)

The Application of Specialist Concrete Repair and Protection Systems + BS EN 1504

(Jonathan Thurlbeck , Remmers UK Limited)

Methods of Cathodic Protection to Reinforced Concrete.

(Nigel Davidson, CPT)

Following the Seminar, we got a very satisfactory feedback and we proceeded to give the CPD certificates requested. We would like to thank once again the attendees for their participation and the staff of The Signing Tree, who were always very helpful and kind.

We had a very nice day and we are really looking forward for our next CPD seminars both in-house or in convenient venues around the UK.

Next seminars will be hosted in Manchester in September and in London in November. If you would like to get further information or to book your place, please contact us at marina.jmunoz@concorr.co.uk or via telephone at 012 2745 2200.
